151 hours in Baldur’s Gate 3 and Terminator 2 – Last Weekend

The weekend is already over, so we look at what the editors of Gamer.nl have played, watched and read in their spare time.

After a few weeks in Japan I returned and continued where I left off: gaming. In the land of the rising sun I was busy with a Pokémon Emerald nuzlocke and it just continued. I have now passed the fifth gym and am doing some clean-up, such as catching Pokémon on routes I haven’t been to yet. A number of animals also need to be trained, because the run has claimed 2 lives so far. On the side I also play Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and I become more and more attached to it with every play session.

Last week, Content Warning (temporarily free) was released. People were shouting left and right that this was a Lethal Company-like game and of course I had to check that with the rest of the LC crew. In Content Warning you and your film crew go into depth to create scary content for Spooktube. The more moments you capture, the more views you get. After the time has elapsed, you can watch your one and a half minute video together on the couch while receiving live responses from the viewers. The game doesn’t feel completely finished, because many things are still simple. The tension is also gone after a few runs. However, with a few mods installed it was hilarious and we had a good evening of stupid moments.

Milestone here: my wife and I have reached 151 hours of playtime in Baldur’s Gate 3. And then we’re only towards the end of Act 2 of 3. So yes, we’re taking our time, but the journey still feels wonderful. us as a Dungeons & Dragons couple. The locations, the creatures we encounter and especially all the lore, which often ties in with everything we already know from D&D campaigns. But the biggest cheer moments are when we manage to defeat a final boss with cleverly selected spells and tactically positioned companions – especially because my halfling thief can then shoot the bad guys all the harder from the shadows. That’s still not boring after more than six and a half days.

I already made a cautious start last weekend, but last week and weekend I went all out for Dragon’s Dogma 2. That’s why I’m really into it now, and this is one of those rare games that I constantly think about when I’m not playing it. The game world and the freedom it gives you – including the danger that constantly lurks – appeals to me enormously. Granted; the combat can sometimes feel a bit generic due to a slight lack of different enemies (at least, so far), but that’s really the only criticism I can think of at the moment. I’m going to enjoy this for weeks to come!

I did my duty and, together with my fellow Helldivers, defeated the Automatons once and for all. I was at Durgen, still in the middle of an operation against the very last killer robots, when I saw on Twitter that we had won. We were then able to have the free tea straight away. Nice work people!

The Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth spoiler cast with our Erik and Simon is planned, but then I still have to finish the game for a while. And that’s going… well, okay. I’m really enjoying the game and I’m still curious to see where it goes, but some chapters feel very stretched. Especially after a number of side missions that don’t win the originality prize, some main quests feel unnecessarily long. But hey, it’s not finished yet.

I also thoroughly enjoyed the season finale of Invincible and participated in the Hyrox in Rotterdam. I have a lot of muscle pain from the latter, but I am proud that I achieved it.

I am 38 years old and my education is complete: I have seen Terminator 2. I feel like that child on the schoolyard again who can finally join the conversation – while De Groep has already moved on to the next hype. A bit like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which I’m in the middle of right now everyone is working on Dragon’s Dogma 2 – and where I’ve never played more than the demo of the original, so it’s all new to me. Anyway, Terminator 2: perfect action movie. FF7 Rebirth: So far a lot less interesting than Remake.

While the sun was shining outside this weekend, I spent my digital hours on Costa Del Sol playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Chapter 6 is complete and I am now heading out again with a brand new party member. I also watched the first season of Attack On Titan, which I really enjoyed. The combination of desperation and pure badassery makes for a very intriguing series that I think about constantly. I’m also still working on the first omnibus of Chris Claremont’s X-Men, but I’m not going through it digitally as much as I would with a physical version.

And let me not forget last Sunday’s Dungeons and Dragons adventures. The first year at the magical school Strixhaven has been completed and with it the mystery surrounding the dark slime that has caused chaos during the school year has been solved. The source has been found, the bad guy defeated, and the seeds have been planted for the big bad to make even more noise in the years to come. First, however, players will participate in some kind of Pokémon tournament!
